We got a new oven and within a week my husband had already spilled bacon grease in the bottom of it. But did we clean it up right away? No! We just kept turning the oven on and letting it bake on there. We then proceeded to accidentally spill other random things and now our oven looks like this:
Yay! So, I decided to experiment with it today to see if I could get it looking clean again. First, I sprinkled some baking soda on it.
I don't actually use Trader Joe's baking soda. I just like the container, so I dumped it out (because it wasn't working well AT ALL) and I just get a huge thing of Arm & Hammer baking soda from Costco. Anyway, it looked like this after I applied the baking soda:
Then I put 1/2 cap of undiluted Thieves cleaner on it.
Then I put three drops of lemon essential oil on it, because it's really good at eating up petrochemicals and degreasing and all that jazz.
Then, I got my scrubby sponge (but didn't really scrub it) and mixed it all together like so...
Then I shut the door, set the timer for 20 minutes, and went about my business. When it buzzed I was still in the middle of laundry, so I probably didn't get back to it for another 10 minutes. But when I did I grabbed my scrubby sponge and went to town. It was really easy to get up! I only put very minimal scrubbing effort on a few spots and it all wiped up and went away! So I got my regular sponge and a towel and wiped everything out. Here's the result:
Can you believe it? Yay for clean ovens!!! I didn't have to use the "self-clean" setting on the oven, or use any toxic cleaners! Now my house smells like lemony Christmas and it's great! I'm so excited that it worked! Until next time,
